Main Line Health HomeCare and Hospice is looking for Veterans for their Veteran Hospice Volunteer Program
We recognize the special needs of our military veterans at end of life. Our program matches veteran patients with volunteers who have military experience. Our veteran volunteers relate and connect with veteran patients to support life review and healing.

How can you help as a veteran volunteer?

  • Volunteers are an important part of quality hospice care
  • Veterans are part of a special culture with their own common language and experiences.
  • The bond created among veterans has proven supportive for all involved.

How can you participate as a veteran volunteer?

  • Support veteran patients through sharing life stories and presence.
  • Provide companionship, emotional support and respite.
  • Educate and help patients with obtaining veteran benefits.
  • Take part in recognition ceremonies.
  • Deliver certificates for Veteran's Day and other veteran events.
  • Assist in replacing lost medals for veteran patients.

As a hospice volunteer, you will receive the training you need to become confident, comfortable and successful in whatever volunteer role you choose. We work carefully to match our patients’ needs with the strengths and availability of our volunteers. Our program serves veterans in Philadelphia, Delaware, Chester and Montgomery Counties. We value any time you are able to give and we will work with your schedule and preferences.

Our hospice volunteer coordinator is available for encouragement and supervision. Monthly meetings provide volunteers the opportunity to meet with their peers to share experiences and support one another.

If you have a caring spirit and a few hours a week to give, we invite you to join our team and help make a difference for our veteran patients and their families.

Description

Hospice is not a place, but a concept. It is recognized as the model of quality, compassionate health care for people facing a life-limiting illness.

Our approach to hospice care is holistic. It recognizes not just the needs of the patient, but of the entire family. We focus on caring, not curing.

Our hospice volunteers are an integral part of our team- providing the gift of time and themselves to our patients, their families, our team and hospice program.

We are committed to providing compassionate, respectful care that maintains our patient’s dignity. Services are individually tailored to the patient’s needs and wishes. Whenever possible, care is provided where most people prefer to be - at home. Volunteers visit patients in any an all of these settings, providing companionship to a pateint

We serve patients in Delaware, Chester, Montgomery and Philadelphia counties and are looking for volunteers across those counties. Free and convenient training as well as on-going support is provided.
