Dancing Girls

GIRLS ARE NATURAL BORN SCIENTISTS! Imagine taking her on a journey on some of the biggest challenges and problems our planet faces-and helping solve them. Or having a career that’s engaging and well paid. Imagine her teaming up with others to invent the future. That future can be a reality, thanks to science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM).

Research shows that girls are keenly interested in STEM and excel at it. Yet, for a variety of reasons, girls often don’t pursue STEM-starting as early as elementary school.

But we can change that! WE NEED YOU TO HELP US help each girl see that STEM can help her make the world a better place! Girl Scouts who participate in girl-focused STEM programs:

  • Become better problem-solvers, critical thinkers, and inspirational leaders
  • Get better grades, earn scholarships, and follow more lucrative career paths
  • See STEM as the foundation for a meaningful and successful future

The possibilities are truly endless with YOUR help!

We are looking for volunteers to help lead and mentor K-5th grade girls in 1-2 hour STEM sessions for 4-6 weeks in an after school program setting in Newport and Covington, KY schools. This hands on curriculum is designed to inspire girls to embrace and celebrate scientific discovery in their lives!

All materials are provided and volunteers are trained to lead this 4-6 week session.

Mission Statement

"Girl Scouting builds girls of Courage, Confidence and Character who make the world a better place."

Description

Girl Scouts is for girls-and it ALWAYS will be!

In Girl Scouts, girls discover the fun, friendship, and power of girls working together. Through a myriad of enriching experiences, such as STEM hands-on events, extraordinary field trips, sports skill-building clinics, community service projects, cultural exchanges, and environmental stewardships, girls grow courageous and strong. Girl Scouting helps girls develop their full individual potential; relate to others with increasing understanding, skill, and respect; develop values to guide their actions and provide the foundation for sound decision-making; and contribute to the improvement of society through their abilities, leadership skills, and cooperation with others.

One of the most powerful results of living the Girl Scout Law is the ability to exercise and recognize true leadership. Being honest and fair, courageous and strong, using resources wisely, respecting yourself and others, and making the world a better place...these are values that our staff and our volunteers on a national and a local level continually teach, model, and reinforce.
