Work Options for Women (WOW) helps people overcome barriers to sustainable employment by building confidence while providing resources and culinary job training. WOW is seeking volunteers to help us further our mission and provide direct supports to the persons we serve.
Position: Volunteer
Reports to: Education Coordinator
Supervises: Students and Volunteers (as needed)
Location: Work Options for Women Training Center (1200 Federal Blvd, Denver, CO, 80204)
Position Summary: Support the operations of the program through facilitating ServSafe or Kitchen Math classes, supporting students in job search to obtain employment and various administrative tasks in the office.
Roles:
ServSafe Volunteer:
- Insure students understand basic knowledge of safe food handling
- Facilitate ServSafe Class Tuesday-Friday 8-9:30am
- Proctor ServSafe Test Friday 8-9:30am
- Experience facilitating groups, classes utilizing a curriculum
Math Instructor Volunteer:
- Teach basic Math 1 or Math 2
- Basic understanding of measurements and fractions
- Ability to understand students level of learning and adapt training to meet learning needs
- Ability to understand needed aptitude and performance and coach student to meet class goals
- Experience facilitating groups, classes utilizing a curriculum
- Classes are on Wednesday, 8-10:15am
Career Center Volunteer:
- Support students with job search with basic computer skills coaching
- Help create and edit resume and cover letter
- Help students prepare for interviews
- Experience facilitating groups, classes utilizing a curriculum
- Classes are on Tuesday, 9-10:30am
- Applicants with flexible schedule desired
All Volunteer roles can include:
- Administrative tasks such as filing and organizing client files
- Supporting students in Career Center with basic computer skills training and coaching
- Supporting Employment Specialist with filing and data entry
Requirements:
- Be 18 years old or older
- Pass a criminal background check (prior conviction(s) do not automatically bar an applicant)
- Commit to volunteer shift at least 1 day a week, for at least 3 months
Compensation:
WOW will provide lunch from the WOW Cafe for volunteers. Volunteer positions with WOW are not paid and not guarantee a paid position with WOW. WOW does support volunteering as a pathway into other professional goals and will support successful volunteers with recommendation letters.

Work Options for Women is a non-profit organization serving the Denver Metro Area that provides culinary job training, case management services, soft skills preparation and job placement assistance to people who are unemployed or underemployed and interested in gaining sustainable employment in the food service industry.
