Children in Placement-CT, Inc.
Children in Placement is a non-profit organization that trains local volunteers throughout Connecticut to advocate for abused and neglected children in foster care.
Our volunteers are trained to be Guardians ad Litem (GALs) and are assigned to 1-2 cases, acting as the eyes and ears of the court while evaluating the needs of the child and helping the child find a safe, permanent home. Volunteer work as a GAL includes visiting the child in their foster home monthly, consulting with professionals in the child’s life such as teachers and therapists, exploring potential resources for the child and advocating for the child’s in the best interests in court GALs do not need to be attorneys or have any specific educational or professional Backgrounds.
Research indicates that children with a GAL volunteer are significantly less likely to languish on long-term foster care and are less likely to re-enter foster care later. For many abused children, their GAL volunteer allows them to feel heard and is a source of consistency in their tumultuous lives.
