EVENT DESCRIPTION:

Join One Brick Boston for the next stop on our series of FREE socials at some of the city's hottest spots!

This month, we're excited to be hosted by our partner, Bantam Cider at their Tasting Room in Union Square in Somerville, on Friday, November 16th from 6:00pm to 8:00pm! We'll also be holding a Thanksgiving Food Drive as part of this social, with donated items going to the Greater Boston Food Bank. We encourage attendees to bring food items to this social to support this food drive - see donation guidelines below!

Come join us to enjoy tasty cider and chat with other volunteers and friends. We'll have some light bites available as well. It's a great way to start your Friday night and weekend!

The wonderful folks at Cava ( https:// cava.com/) will also be there for a tasty food pop-up!

One Brick social events are an awesome opportunity to connect with others in a casual environment as well as learn about upcoming opportunities to fill your both your volunteer and social calendars!

Friends are always welcome to join in on the fun! Hope to see you there!

**THANKSGIVING FOOD DRIVE DETAILS**:

We encourage folks to bring nonperishable food items for our Thanksgiving Food Drive, which will be supporting the Greater Boston Food Bank. Please refer to the guidelines below to make sure your donation is able to have the maximum impact!

MOST DESIRED NON-PERISHABLE FOOD ITEMS:

  • Protein: Tuna fish, chicken, salmon, beans, peanut butter, low-sodium soups & stews, nuts
  • Vegetables: Low-sodium vegetables, tomato products, spaghetti sauce
  • Fruit: Dried fruit, applesauce, any canned fruit in its own juice

  • Dairy: Dried, evaporated, and boxed shelf stable milk

GENERAL GUIDELINES:

GHGB accept all non-perishable (not frozen or refrigerated), sealed, unexpired food. They also accept unopened toiletries (shampoo, soap, shaving cream, etc.) - these should be kept separate from any food donations. They prefer non-glass containers for the safety of our volunteers. They cannot accept baby food or pet food from a food drive.

About Bantam Cider:

Bantam Cider was born from a proud family tradition of winemaking and a desire to be part of a creative process rooted in the local community. We were inspired to do something special, to create a truly unique and modern line of products that would reshape the way people experience cider. We use the best quality local fruit and ingredients we can find and work from our cidery in Somerville, Massachusetts.

Bantam remains a small enterprise in a world of big brands. However, our ambitions are bigger than ever. We plan to challenge everyday thinking about what cider should be, one great drink at a time.

WHERE TO MEET:

Bantam does not have a parking lot. Please be respectful of our neighbors and do not park in their private lots nor at Target. There is street parking on Somerville Avenue and some metered parking a few blocks west. Trains, buses, and bikes are a great option. We are a 15 minute walk from two T stops (Sullivan Square and Lechmere) and the Hubway and bus stops are right nearby. If those options don't appeal to you, you can always hitch a ride with Uber or Lyft - they'll get you here and back safely!

Once you're at Bantam, look for the folks in the orange lanyards to find the One Brick group!

Mission Statement

One Brick provides support to local non-profit and community organizations by creating a unique, social and flexible volunteer environment for those interested in making a concrete difference in the community. We enable people to get involved, have an impact and have fun, without the requirements of individual long-term commitments.

Description

Headquartered in San Francisco, California, One Brick is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that brings volunteers together to support other local non-profits by adopting an innovative twist to the volunteer experience: we create a friendly and social atmosphere around volunteering, and after each volunteer event -- which typically lasts only 3 to 4 hours -- we invite volunteers to gather at a local restaurant or caf where they can get to know one another in a relaxed social setting.

Our 'commitment-free volunteering' allows you to choose when you volunteer, rather than having to make commitments for a certain number of volunteer hours, or agree to be available every week at a specific time.
