Every year, the San Diego River Park Foundation picks up more than 200,000 lbs of trash from the San Diego River. But where does it all come from?!
You can help with a study that will determine how trash is getting into our local water ways. Volunteers will work together to sort collected trash by type and then count it, weigh it, and measured it by volume. Volunteers will then help to record this information; so that it can be used to plan trash reduction strategies such as trash capture devices and public education campaigns.
Volunteers should be comfortable standing, kneeling, and working with muddy trash. All tools will be provided. Community service hours can be verified for those that need them. Be sure to dress in clothes that can get a little dirty and wear closed shoes, no sandals or flip-flops allowed for safety reasons. Volunteers of all ages are welcome.
