Mighty Earth (www.mightyearth.org) is looking for motivated individuals to help us on an exciting campaign to reform the meat industry. Volunteers will help us to build grassroots power, work with local organizations, and participate in environmental advocacy. Over the next several months, we will be organizing community events, working with the media, collecting petition signatures and photo petitions, and building a broad coalition of local groups.
Industrial meat production has a larger environmental impact than almost any other human activity. Feeding and raising livestock for meat takes up more land and freshwater than any other industry, and the industry’s waste byproducts rank among the top sources of greenhouse gas emissions and water pollution around the world. Agribusiness giants like Cargill and Tyson have directly financed the large-scale destruction of South America’s rainforests and prairies, the pollution of Midwest water, and created an enormous annual dead zone in the Gulf of Mexico.
This campaign is aimed at building grassroots pressure on Cargill and Tyson by going after their highest profile customers, McDonald’s and Whole Foods, and demanding that they require Cargill and Tyson to either reform their practices or stop buying their products. We also want McDonald’s and Whole Foods to adopt and implement their own policies to make sure ALL of their suppliers adopt good practices to protect forests, water, and climate.
We are looking for volunteers starting immediately! The campaign is just getting started and we are looking to build momentum!
We'll work with your schedule.
