Change a neighbor's life! Share your computer skills with novice computer users. As the world becomes more wired and the economy demands computer knowledge, many people are learning to use a computer for the first time. Be part of a team that is helping to bridge the digital divide in our community.
As a Digital Skills Coach, you will:
- Teach 1-2 ninety-minute digital skills or computer classes each month, based on provided outlines & materials
- Facilitate 1-2 ninety-minute "open lab" or informal Q&A sessions each month
- Respond to the individual needs of attendees in a patient, professional manner
- Record attendance numbers and suggest/prepare future topics based on class interactions
- Working knowledge of PCs, Microsoft Office, Internet, and social media
- Patience and good communication skills. Ability to work with diverse community members
- Friendly, courteous and enthusiastic attitude.
- Evening and/or weekend availability, in order to offer classes around work/school schedules
- Reliability. Coaches are most effective when they can meet with attendees regularly and develop an understanding of their learning needs through continuing interaction.
- Training provided prior to first shift. Materials include information on the library’s digital services and outlines for a variety of classes
- Additional library staff help/consultations as needed
- Time Commitment: 3 - 6 hours per month
- Length of Commitment: Minimum of 6 months requested
- Opportunity to share your computer skills with others. Help bridge the digital divide and change the lives of new computer users.
- Hone your computer, communication, and teaching skills.
- Develop relationships with community members and library staff.
