As a Disaster Duty Officer you will be an essential part of the American Red Cross of Eastern New York’s response and recovery team. This position is responsible for safely deploying, coordinating, coaching and supervising Eastern New York disaster workers to active disaster scenes throughout our twenty-four counties. The Duty Officer supports disaster responders in the field and ensures accountability and standardization for the entire region’s disaster response and recovery program.

This is NOT an "on-scene" disaster response position, and can be from from the comfort of your own home.
We are looking for people who:

• Have exceptional verbal and written communication skills with attention to detail
• Are proficient with the use of a computer and cell phone (often simultaneously)
• Have access to an internet connection and computer; cell phones can be provided, but you must have strong cell service at your home
• Have the emotional fortitude to work with clients and volunteers during times of crisis
• Can interface professionally with partners, clients, community members and volunteers
• Can multi-task, troubleshoot and make decisions under stressful conditions with tight timelines
• Can work with a team
• Are willing to follow American Red Cross policies and procedures
• Can commit to work a 6 hour on-call shift 1-2 times a week

All training will be provided, along with ongoing support and mentorship in the role. This is an excellent fit for individuals looking to continue their work in the emergency response field or are looking to enhance their skills and experience in this area.
