Increase food access by canvassing underserved neighborhoods and raising awareness on different nutrition programs, such as SNAP (formerly known as food stamps) and Summer Meals and ways to access food benefits, such as online ordering and delivery. Street outreach is a simple, yet highly effective way to connect with the community and distribute information.
This role is ideal for someone who is outgoing and friendly; comfortable talking to people they don’t know; enjoys being outside in different communities; and supports the mission to eliminate food insecurity in NYC. Must be 18 years old, or accompanied by someone 18 or older, and able to be outside for around 2 hours. Participants will be distributing information about benefit programs.

HUNGER FREE AMERICA (formerly known as the New York City Coalition Against Hunger) is a national nonprofit group building a nonpartisan, grass-roots membership movement to enact the policies and programs needed to end domestic hunger and ensure that all Americans have sufficient access to nutritious food.
Our long-term goal is not just to ameliorate the problem, but also to build the people’s movement necessary to enact the economic and public policies needed to end hunger entirely. Given that hunger drains our economy and tears at our moral and civic fabric, we know that eliminating it will boost the nation both economically and spiritually. Towards that end, we’ve adopted the motto: "Ending hunger lifts us all."
