About Saint John's Program for Real Change

Mission Statement

The mission of Saint John’s is to unleash the potential of women and children in crisis by breaking the cycle of poverty and dependence, one family at a time.

Description

Saint John’s operates the largest "shelter" in Sacramento County, and the only one focused exclusively on homeless women and their children - the most rapidly rising segment of the homeless population both regionally and nationally. Saint John’s life-changing program, however, is much more than just a "shelter." Their 18-month continuum of care addresses the root issues associated with chronic poverty for this population. Clients receive intensive and individualized mental health services and comprehensive education classes while they undergo hands-on, experiential job training in one of our three social enterprises. At the same time, the Children’s Program supports their children in working through, and healing from, the trauma they have experienced, while creating an academic and social foundation upon which they can build their future.
