ORGANIZATION: YAMM (Youth Achieving Moral Maturity)

Help students learn, and understand the school instructional content of subjects by becoming a tutor. You can help boost our local students NC EOG scores through the development of study skills, testing goals and overall academic performance by tutoring them.

TUTOR QUALIFICATIONS are 16 years of age or older. No degrees or diplomas are necessary and there are no tests required for tutors. To be successful, tutors must be comfortable with their own math, reading, biology, and writing skills. Good tutors are empathetic, patient, able to give clear directions, and willing to learn new skills themselves.

TUTOR COMMITMENT

  • Meet your student(s) virtually or in-person
  • Tutor at least twice a week
  • Make at least a six (6) month commitment to the tutoring program

STUDENT INFORMATION

  • Students are between 10 and 18 years of age.
  • Students come from a disadvantaged economic level
  • All children are in middle and high school, grades 6-12.
  • Most can read and write, perform most math functions but not well enough to achieve the grade level on the NC EOG
  • An estimated 65% are not on grade level and do not pass NC EOGs
  • Students must attend regularly.
  • Goals will need to be established with students for as a tutor
