ABOUT THE EVENT
Want to help non-English speakers with their conversational abilities? Want to engage local immigrant communities in a meaningful and direct way? Then please join Workers Defense Project for English Partners Night (EPN) where you will converse with students from our beginner level ESL classes.

Every semester this event is rated highly by our students because of fantastic volunteers like you who help build their confidence and affirm what they've learned in class. We are hoping to have 20-25 volunteers for that evening so that we have a one-to-one ratio of volunteers to students.

For this evening, we set up stations. You will work with students to talk about the prompts at each station and write down the answer, then the students will rotate and you will get to speak to another student. By the end of the night you will get to know most of our classes and learn more about our students here at WDP. You don't need to know another language to volunteer, just have a native or near native conversational English ability.

PARKING
We have plenty of parking onsite!

AGENDA
6:30PM - New EPN volunteers arrive to WDP for instructions on how the night will go and quick classroom set up.

Mission Statement

Workers Defense Project is a membership-based organization that empowers low-income workers to achieve fair employment through education, direct services, organizing and strategic partnerships.

Description

WDP was founded in August 2002 by employees and volunteers of Casa Marianella, a local Austin shelter, to address the problem of unpaid wages for Austin’s low-wage workers. We are a worker center and part of a national movement of organizations that seek to provide low-wage workers with the resources they need to improve their working and living conditions. The project provides a source of power and hope for low-wage workers who have little access to these important resources. WDP is one of the few organizations in Texas working to address workplace abuse faced by low-wage workers. The organization is one of the most established worker centers in the South and a leader in fighting for fair conditions for working people.

WDP opened the Houston office in 2017.
