Are you retired and looking for something fulfilling to spend your time doing? Do you love working with your hands, using tools and sharing your skills while helping other people? Become a HabitatSHR Red Hat.
Red Hats are senior volunteer Crew Leaders whose job it is to assist construction staff as "additional hands" to guide and assist the day to day volunteers on the construction site who are mainly unskilled and untrained.
By working directly with one or two volunteers each Red Hats assist construction staff to ensure the day’s tasks are completed in a proper and safe way so that each day is productive and fun for everyone.
Red Hats commit one to three days a week to volunteering on the construction site with our paid construction staff. Ideally, we want Red Hats who are able to commit to a minimum of one year to the program including the training period, which takes about 4-6 months, depending on the skill level of the person coming into the program.
No construction experience required, just a desire to learn and a willingness to then share your knowledge with others. We provide training including hands on training on build sites and additional computer training on your own.Contact volunteer@shrhabitat.org for more information on the program and how to register to start volunteering.
