Mission Statement

Pacific Marine Mammal Center (PMMC) is a non-profit 501 (c) 3 organization with a mission to rescue, medically treat and rehabilitate marine mammals that strand along the Orange County coastline due to illness or injury, release healthy marine mammals to their natural habitat, and increase public awareness of the marine environment through education and research.

Established in 1971 as Friends of the Sea Lion, it has been the passion and the goal of PMMC to act as protector and caregiver to marine mammals and to function as a steward of the animals' habitat. PMMC consistently achieves its goal through an efficient animal care program, a dedicated and capable network of volunteers, and a broad range of educational programs that serve to inform and encourage the public to participate in protecting the animals that share our coastline, as well as promoting the development of practices that will ensure a healthy ocean environment.
