For more than 30 years, Stella Maris has provided hospice care to individuals facing a life-limiting illness. Whether care is provided in the home or on our inpatient unit, hospice care at Stella Maris is not just a service, but a part of our Mission. Our hospice program values the support of volunteers, who help provide support to the terminally ill, their families and the bereaved.

Stella Maris Hospice volunteers are required to complete a comprehensive hospice volunteer training program, including 20-hours of classroom time (we have morning and afternoon classes!), and shadowing of other volunteers. This program helps develop the critical skills for working with the dying.

Additionally, you'll need to agree to a background check, a TB test, and have a flu shot.

Hospice volunteers are expected to make at least a one-year commitment to the Stella Maris Hospice program.

Our volunteers have the opportunity to bring a calming presence , or a moment of relief for a family member caring for their loved one in their last moments.
