Imagine a world where you cannot speak the way you want to or need to.
Imagine having to tell your child that you cannot help them with their homework because you are unable to.
Imagine being an adult with no options for self-growth or forward momentum.
Now Imagine an agency that has been around for 40 years, quietly helping adults in the community to achieve their goals.
Imagine no more! We exist and we help Adults in the Community who are struggling with their reading, writing and/or speaking.
As a non-profit, we train, match and support Volunteers so that they can work in the community with an Adult who has been interviewed, assessed and tested by us. We work at all levels! Some of our students cannot read at all and others cannot quite pass their TASC (formerly GED). Some of our students get off a plane from a foreign country on a Tuesday and are in our office on Wednesday with a relative or friend, inquiring about our ESL Classes.
This 1.5 Hour Orientation is to introduce you to our agency and the services we offer. Upon completion of the Orientation, you will have the opportunity to sign up for the online training and begin the process of becoming a tutor. Our Program Coordinators support all Volunteers every step of the way with goal setting, teaching methods, materials and matches. Once you are trained, your Program Coordinator will work with you directly to ensure a quality Volunteer Experience. We love all of our volunteers, whether they are with us for 3 months or 3 years. Some of our volunteers have been with us for 30 years!!
By lifting up those that are the most vulnerable in the community, we are also lifting up ourselves and the towns that we reside in. We see big and small goals every week: driver's licenses, green cards, college enrollment and employment are just some of the many things that our students are working towards. Many of our students have had very hard lives, filled with obstacles and tragedy. By simply helping, you become not only a tutor, but also a mentor, someone who becomes a voice for the voiceless. Join us today and become part of dynamic, social and progressive organization.
