ORGANIZATION: MIND BODY BABY

  • 5 people are interested

Mind Body Baby supports new families in a multitude of ways. One of them is bi-monthly postpartum support groups. One is active now, with other locations in the plans very soon. As part of that support, we wish to provide access to multi-generational experiences. Many new parents are living away from their own parents/ families, so much of the immediate support they can offer is not existent. Also, it is known that biologically, infants are expecting positive sensory input people of many ages ranges (as our hunter/gather ancestors would have experienced. This volunteer opportunity is a chance to join the postpartum groups as an extra set of hands to help mom with baby, perhaps give positive perspective to their experiences.
Signing up for this volunteer position adds you to a 'grantparent collective' of support. After an interview, you can hope to pick volunteer days that fit your schedule.

Mission Statement

Mind Body Baby, a non-profit collective, strives to educate and support new caregivers through the prenatal, perinatal and postpartum experience because when caregivers are nurtured and knowledgeable, children have the ability to reach their fullest potential.

Description

Mind Body Baby is founded by four infant/postpartum practitioners - Cynthia Wood of Infant Massage Charlotte; Dr. Brenda Gajowski of She Thrives Physical Therapy and Wellness; Dr. Jen DiCicco of Baby Steps; and Morgan Griffith of Sleep Pea Infant and Toddler Sleep Consulting. The organization will expand to a large collective of practitioners and volunteers to provide prenatal and postpartum support to caretakers and families. The term 'practitioner’ includes services (beyond those of the founders) such as lactation consulting; financial planning; emotional preparation and postpartum therapy; doulas; midwives; and other support and education services.

Mind Body Baby (MBB) plans to fulfill its mission as a facilitator of a village for new parents, working to include all the elements of Charlotte’s diverse population. In the short term, we want begin with several program ideas, including new caregiver support groups, special classes for at-risk populations, a Top 5 video education program and a baby wearing/ essentials initiative.
