Empowering youth to stay in school!

Help Communities In Schools of Central Texas (CIS) empower students to stay in school and achieve in life! CIS is looking for volunteers to mentor elementary school students at Hemphill Elementary School.

Mentors serve as a caring and consistent role model for one student, and help them engage in their educational future. For a full academic school year, you would meet with a student for one hour a week on the Overton Elementary School campus. A CIS staff member would work with you to schedule a regular time and day of the week for you to volunteer.

Being a mentor is about meeting the student where they are and engaging their interests and needs. This could include spending time talking, playing games, working through challenges, exploring educational opportunities for the future, and more! Communities In Schools staff support mentors throughout the year and provide insights and resources to be a successful mentor.

Bilingual (Spanish & English) speaking volunteers are extremely helpful, but this is not a requirement.
