Volunteers are an integral part of Human Appeal’s success. They are the ones that create real change for those most in need. This is your chance to meet new people, gain new skills and experience and have fun whilst being part of a great cause. We need Night Shelter Volunteers to help tackle the issue of homelessness this winter and provide support to those who are most vulnerable.

Main tasks include:

• Supporting homeless people who come to the night shelters to have access to support services
• Basic food preparation

• Serving hot drinks and food

• Engaging with and chatting to customers and offering emotional support
• Supporting with housekeeping and ensuring the facilities remain clean

• Not judging people for their circumstances

• Willing to learn and listen

Training and Development:

You will receive relevant training in safeguarding, confidentiality, health and safety and other topics necessary to the role. You will be receive ongoing supervision and support in the role. All volunteers will require an enhanced DBS check before commencing their volunteer time with us, please note that a criminal record does not necessarily prevent you from volunteering.

What is the next step?

Volunteers must be able to complete the initial training and commit to volunteering over a period of 6 months for a minimum of 3 hours per week. The Night shelter will be operating 7 evenings a week. It would be helpful if volunteers could be responsive to the needs of the service. The campaign will begin in November 2018 and continue until the end of April 2019.
