Become a Refugee Youth Mentor with iACT

Interfaith Action of Central Texas (iACT) matches adult volunteers with teen refugees to act as mentors. Being a refugee youth has many challenges, including learning a new language, a new social environment, and a new educational system. Mentors meet at the refugee student's home once a week to help them with homework and to address any social difficulties they may be experiencing in school. If you are interested in becoming a mentor with us, please join us for the next mentor training session on Wednesday, January 22, 2020 from 6-7pm at the iACT office (2921 E 17th St). If you plan to attend the training, please RSVP here: https://bit.ly/2NwSlsK

Mission Statement

iACT cultivates peace and respect through interfaith dialogue, service and celebration.

Description

iACT's mission is to cultivate peace and respect through interfaith service, celebration, and dialogue. This mission is realized every day through our three programs: Red Bench, iACT for Refugees, and Hands on Housing.

iACT for Refugees: The only federally approved program providing ESL and cultural orientation classes to newly arrived refugees in the Austin area.

Red Bench: This dialogue series fosters unity by allowing people to meet others from different faith backgrounds, discover shared values and find common ground.

Hands on Housing: Austin's largest volunteer-based housing rehabilitation program provides critical home repairs to impoverished senior citizens, disabled individuals, and single parent households.

iACT also hosts several celebrations throughout the year, including the Hope Awards, A Night Under One Sky, and the Interfaith Day of Thanks Service and Celebration.
