Matter of Balance acknowledges the risk of falling buy emphasizes practical copying strategies to reduce this fear. These strategies include promoting a view of falls and fear of falling as controllable, setting realistic goals for increasing activity, changing the environment to reduce fall risk factors, and promoting exercise to increase strength and balance.
Skills Needed: Administrative/clerical, appreciation for client/consumer confidentiality/HIPAA. Basic knowledge of group dynamics and group facilitation, willingness to co-lead and maintain fidelity to program guidelines (heavily scripted curriculum).
Schedule: Training is 2 days for initial certification, with requirement to co-lead two workshops in first year. Workshop runs for 8 weeks, 1 class per week, each class is 2 - 2.5 hours per class running plus additional time for preparation of materials, set up and take down of meeting space. Estimate 4 hours per week including travel.
