Join the Green Mountain Clubs Brattleboro Section on Saturday, November 3 and/or Sunday November 4 for a weekend devoted to giving back to a section of the Appalachian Trail/Long Trail.

Part of the group will be meeting at the West Dummerston Covered Bridge at 7 a.m on Saturday, November 3. Another part of the group will be meeting at the Long Trail parking lot on Route 30 at 8 a.m.

Volunteers will have the option of spending the night and volunteering for both days. One sleeping accommodation includes a 1 mile-round trip to the William B. Douglas Shelter (3 walled shelter) in the Lye Brook Wilderness. Another option is a 4 mile-round trip to the Spruce Peak Shelter (4 walled structure). It is suggested that you bring your own tent in case the shelters are crowded. Volunteers are also responsible for providing all of their own food for the weekend including snack, breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Volunteers are responsible for bringing their own camping essentials as well such as, sleeping pad, sleeping bag, and enough layers to stay comfortably warm.

Whether you are helping out for a day or the weekend be sure to wear long pants, sturdy boots, and work gloves. Please bring any shovels, hoes and clippers you may have. Also be sure to bring bug spray, sunscreen, snacks, lunch, and plenty of water for the day.

About APPALACHIAN TRAIL CONSERVANCY

Location:

PO BOX 807, HARPERS FERRY, WV 25425, US

Mission Statement

The Appalachian Trail Conservancy’s mission is to protect, manage, and advocate for the Appalachian National Scenic Trail.

Description

Appalachian Trail (A.T.) is a project built on civic engagement. It exists because people like you step up and help out in a variety of ways, outdoors or inside. Activities can be physical (such as Trail work or boundary maintenance), creative (like contributing photography or writing), or organizational (like planning or leading activities).

Volunteers gain new skills through their work. Whether you volunteer because you enjoy time in nature, want to forge new friendships, or appreciate having a deeper connection to a place you hold in high regard, we are glad you are here.

There are a variety of ways to contribute your talents and your time.
