Big Brothers Big Sisters' Community-Based Mentoring program pairs screened, trained adult volunteers with youth facing adversity and provides professional support to their relationships.
The one-on-one time between an adult volunteer and a child doing things they both enjoy builds a trusting relationship that can dramatically improve a child's self-esteem and academic achievement. Matches meet in their local community for a couple hours each week. Through activities like playing board games, shooting hoops, sharing a pizza, taking a walk, or doing crafts, relationships are formed and lives are changed.
Adult mentors are urgently needed in Penobscot, Waldo, Lincoln, Knox, Kennebec, and Somerset counties. We currently have fifty youth waiting for their Big, ranging in age from 5 to 14. We accept applications for Bigs throughout our service area on an ongoing basis and will find you a great Little close to where you live if we don't already have one on the waitlist! Contact us today to find out more about how you could change a child's life for the better, or to speak to a current Big to learn more about the program!
