FIELD REPORTERS WANTED

The one hour program is titled Sustainable Today and is produced monthly through the facilities of Open Signal (Portland Community Media Center.)

We need field reporters to go with camera crews to interview & produce one of two segments for each show. One focuses on a business that has benefitted and/or is actively involved in sustainable activities and practices. The other is a Community Spotlight that highlights grassroots, non-profit, local efforts to promote and advance sustainability. Most of the work is in the Portland metro area but we have and will travel statewide if necessary. We will take as many qualified volunteers as we can get.

The ideal person would be a journalism student or intern with a keen interest in sustainability and developed research, interview and reporting skill as well as on-camera presentation talent. You will be required to research, contact, set up and report on-camera the various field pieces.

This is a polished production so if you are keen on sustainability and the environment, and want to gather some experience for your resume or even your personal life, you will be working with a seasoned veteran news photographer and an experienced crew. Of course experienced persons are also encouraged to join out team.

The Center for a Sustainable Today wishes to present and represent diversity and equity in our productions. Persons of color or varied ethnicity are strongly encouraged to apply.

This program is currently an all-volunteer effort. None of the producers, field correspondents, hosts or production staff is paid. We are seeking funding for wider distribution and national exposure through a newly created non-profit organization called The Center for a Sustainable Today. So there is a possibility this could turn into a more permanent paid position down the road.

Mission Statement

The mission of Sustainability Works is to provide information on easy to do sustainable practices through media and on the ground projects.

Description

Sustainability Works was founded in 2007 and began as a community garden and tv show about sustainability. We now focus on succinct media for quick messaging on how to be sustainable. Our main focus is on botanical issues like pollinator gardens and backyard food crops. We believe that restoring native habitat, choosing the right garden plants, and the right to grow food plants in within our communities will go a long way in bringing clean air and clean water back. We strive to create vibrant films, photos, art, and other media that inspire people to get connect with nature.
