Volunteers are a vital part of the First choice Hospice Team. We are looking for reliable and dedicated volunteers who have a desire to give comfort,peace and care to patients, caregivers, and families during the end of life.
Under the direction of the Volunteer Coordinator, volunteers provide a supportive presence for our patients and their family. Volunteers can make visits to the patients home, skilled nursing facilities, and assisted living facilities. Volunteers usually make 1-4 visits per month (visits range from 1 to 4 hours). Volunteer services may include:
- Active listening
- Emotional support
- Life review
- Social interaction
- Temporary caregiver relief
- Light housekeeping
- Light yard work
- Reading
- Errands
- Spiritual support
- Writing letters or correspondence
- Pet Therapy
Our volunteers go through an application process that includes a background check. We offer on-going and educational opportunities for our volunteers to attend. Topics include Safety of the Patient, Maintaining Health Boundaries, Communication, and other related topics. Volunteers are in frequent contact with the Volunteer Coordinator to discuss any issues or concerns that they or the family of the patient may have.

Our comprehensive care extends beyond the life of our patients, offering bereavement support to anyone who has experienced the loss of a loved one.
