Every Monday-Friday at 9am, volunteers with AOC Community Media read the Daily Advertiser, covering local news, sports, obituaries, horoscopes, public service announcements and much more. Program airs on AOC 1 (Cox 15/LUS 3) and on Cypress Street Radio.
Consider volunteering one hour of your time once or twice a month to read the daily newspaper to our AOC Community Media visually impaired audience.
Volunteers must be able to arrive at AOC Community Media at 8:30am to review the articles prior to going live on the air at 9am. We usually pair 2 readers together so there will be another volunteer reading with you. Each volunteer reads for about 10 minutes worth of articles and then the other volunteers reads for about 10 minutes and they go back and forth this way until we go off of the air for 10am. Please call us at 337.232.4434 ext 216 if you have any questions or e-mail Mary Baudoin at mbaudoin@aocinc.org. Visit www.aocinc.org and complete a volunteer application if you are interested in volunteering.
We recommend that new volunteers attend an observation of the reading program prior to being placed on the schedule to read on the air. This helps the volunteer become acclimated with the process and receive a tour of the studio.

Mission Statement
AOC Community Media’s mission is to build an informed and engaged community through media, technology and education. AOC Community Media is Lafayette, Louisiana's non-profit community media center with television channels on Cox Communications 15 and 16 or LUS Fiber 3 and 4.
Description
AOC is a vital part of Acadiana’s infrastructure serving its residents, local government, schools and nonprofits on a daily basis. These groups use AOC to create their non-commercial messages and then to distribute this information to the community. Anyone who works, goes to school or resides in Lafayette Parish can access to digital media equipment and television studios so they can express their opinions and creativity freely. We teach local students how to understand what they see in media and how to use media equipment to be creators of content themselves. We air local government and school board meetings to keep our community informed and engaged. We support local nonprofits by giving them airtime and resources to build awareness of their causes.
