Our Racial Justice Initiative is entrenched in every program at YWCA Lake County as well as a standing program. We provide participatory workshops, group and community conversations to build a common language and framework in order to discuss race. By exploring the issue, we were able to increase awareness, build trust, break down misconceptions, and build mutual respect and understanding within our communities.

Eliminating racism, empowering women -- it's what we are about and what we intend to do. Our formal mission statement is: The YWCA USA is a women's membership movement nourished by its roots in the Christian faith and sustained by the richness of many beliefs and values. Strengthened by diversity, the YWCA draws together members who strive to create opportunities for women's growth, leadership, and power in order to attain a common vision: peace, justice, freedom, and dignity for all people. The YWCA will thrust its collective power toward the elimination of racism, wherever it exists, and by any means necessary.
Description
The ywca lake county has been a viable resource for women, girls and families since 1922. What began in Waukegan as a residence for young women has evolved into a countywide organization that serves thousands. Our mission and purpose has remained the same over the years; however, our programs have developed to reflect the changing needs of the community.
