Sustainable Contra Costa (SCOCO) invites passionate and dedicated individuals to volunteer to help us further our mission. Our work is based on the 10 principles of One Planet Living and we are committed to helping achieve the global Sustainable Development Goals through local actions in the greater Contra Costa region. Our programs and initiatives leverage the power of individual and community-wide daily actions to transform the way we interact with each other and the world around us.

We have an immediate volunteer opportunity for a Communication Director. We are seeking someone who is self-motivated, has prior experience, and time to dedicate to creating a more Sustainable Contra Costa.

Responsibilities:
The Communications Director will fill a supporting role with the organization enabling SCOCO to operate with a compelling and consistent external message while significantly increasing the awareness of SCOCO and its mission and promoting individual programs and events.

We are seeking a candidate who lives in Contra Costa County and has experience with sustainability programs.

Responsibilities include:
a. Develop, execute and oversee SCOCO’s social media presence.
b. Develop and execute PR strategy for promoting programs and events.
c. Recruit and manage volunteers as needed to carry out committee responsibilities
d. Source and publish sustainability related articles
e. Lead any necessary primary research (i.e. surveys, focus groups)
f. Oversee publication of the monthly E-newsletter.

Time commitment: 1 to 2-year commitment with an estimated 4-8 hours per week of work. Applicant needs to live in Contra Costa County.

The Communications Director will be responsible for recruiting and/or managing volunteers to fill the following roles:

1) Graphic designer
2) Photography services
3) Writers for newsletter articles
