Have a teaching background? Receiving your degree in Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Speech and Language Pathology??? This is a great way to get needed experience and support our trans-disciplinary team!

Commitment: Short-term opportunity. September 27th-October 25th

We need additional Support on October 12th and 17th!

Work Location: Anchor Center

Number of Volunteers Needed for this Position: 2

Purpose/Objective: Provide assistance and support to teachers and therapists during classroom activities. Assists classroom teachers in preparing for program by preparing for individual and group activities, assisting preschool students with classroom activities as well as activities of daily living, and actively participating in all aspects of the classroom with guidance from Preschool Teachers.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Attend orientation and training
  • Use proper techniques when working with visually impaired children (hand-under-hand technique etc...)
  • Help set up before and clean up after activities
  • Assist in the classroom with various activities as deemed appropriate by the classroom teacher
  • Assist teacher with children in the bathroom (washing hands etc.) Volunteers will not be expected to do any "hands-on" toileting

Training/Support: Training by Anchor Center program staff; a staff person will always be present with the volunteer

Qualifications Sought:

  • Experience and/or interest in serving young children with visual impairment

needs are strongly preferred.

  • Has at least 2 years of experience working with children ages 3 to 5 years
  • Enjoys working with children with special needs who may need physical/behavioral supports
  • Patient and easy-going; reliable in keeping commitments
  • Ability to follow directions and work with others
  • Ability to sit/kneel on and get up from the floor and help children with physical transitions
  • Spanish language skills a plus
