Bring your artistic abilities to a Hospice Patient.
What is Hospice? Hospice is active care for a person with a life expectancy of 6 months or less due to a terminal illness. Our team strives to provide comfort care around all aspects of that person’s life- including social interaction.
What can art do? Our art volunteers will go to individual patients or with a group of hospice patients to spread the joy of art. Art volunteers bring color back into the everyday lives of our patients and staff. Doing art with hospice patients helps to give social interaction along with a positive distraction to alleviate symptoms. Art can range from painting, drawing, crocheting, crafts, etc.
Training is done partially by our volunteer coordinator while the second half is self-study. Our ongoing training is done virtually within monthly newsletters. The requirements we have for our art volunteers are:
- Background check & driving record check
- Physical
- Tb test
- FLU shot or declination
We provide all testing for incoming volunteers.
Please email Samantha, BSW, Volunteer coordinator for all questions and/or interests. Thank you for wanting to devote time to a generation that greatly appreciates it.
