Description: Combine your love of working with children with helping underserved populations. St. Luke’s Hospital Dental Health Clinic (DHC) is in need of volunteers to help administer a program in the Cedar Rapids School District that partners with Hawkeye Area Community Action Program (HACAP) to provide dental screenings, dental sealants, and fluoride varnish to children in local schools whose percentage of free/reduced lunch is 40% or more. This volunteer will take direction from DHC dental hygienists in the schools to help make the program run smoothly and efficiently by providing non-dental care services to the children and dental staff. As a volunteer you will guide children to the site in the school, comfort children as needed, and assure proper paperwork and documentation is done for the cares given. This assignment requires a valid driver’s license and ability to navigate and drive to different schools in the Cedar Rapids community. Assignment runs from September to March with time off according to the CRCSD school schedule. Qualifications: 1. Mature, extroverted , positive individual.
2. Desire to work with children.
3. Desire to work with underserved populations.
4. Able to work positively with children who may be anxious and scared.
5. Good listening and speaking skills.
6. Able to read and write in English.
7. Interest in a career in dentistry a plus.
8. Access to a car and ability to drive to several different schools in the Cedar Rapids School District. Valid driver's license required.
