At the end of every fall season, Boston Scores elementary school teams gather to celebrate their season-long accomplishments in the classroom by performing on stage at our annual Poetry Slam. Guided by passionate writing coaches, local poets and our national curriculum, Power of Poetry, teams are introduced to different types of poetic devices, poems and performance techniques.
This special night gathers 420 elementary students from around the city of Boston to the Strand Theatre in Dorchester, MA. Here, they astound an audience of friends, family, teachers, principals and special guests with performances about their community, school, family and aspirations. The Slam also includes a panel of well-known judges from the local Boston community.Volunteer opportunities include: Stage set up and breakdown, ushering students and families to their seats, registration and welcoming students and families, and any other help as needed the day off.
