Sow It Forward: School Vertical Garden Project Coordinator
Project Overview
The purpose of the Sow It Forward: School Vertical Garden Program is to bring vertical gardens and education to low-income and low food access schools. Last year we successfully implemented two gardens into classrooms within the Tempe School District. The results were overwhelmingly positive, with over sixty children enthralled in food-growing education and alternative gardening methods. For this reason, we have decided to expand the project into a district-wide program, where we will work with the schools first hand to implement and maintain the gardens, while promoting the curriculum throughout every grade-level of the school.
Job Purpose
The purpose of the Project Coordinator position is to oversee the program, manage volunteers, and ensure that the garden needs of every school is being met. We will be training a team of volunteers to be able to help set-up, maintain and harvest the gardens, so that they are able to help the schools at every level of the process. Ideally, we will have a volunteer for each school so that they have plenty of time to dedicate the gardens and curriculum.

- Develop relationship with a point-of-contact at each school for communication
- Create a system to effectively monitor school progress and needs
- Assist in garden installments and school check-ins when needed

- Report progress to the AZSA Food Systems Priority Lead

- Experience in volunteer management
- Experience with vertical gardens, or open to learning more about them
