CCANO’s Unaccompanied Children’s Program serves unaccompanied immigrant children who were temporarily in custody of the Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR) and reunified with sponsors. Clinical volunteers will provide services to these children who are identified as most in need. The position involves contact with children from Central America and their families, with a special focus on youth who have suffered abuse, abandonment, neglect, or other trauma, and who require support services in conjunction with legal representation. Volunteer will: provide clinical, supportive, and crisis counseling services; individual, group and family therapy as necessary; manage a caseload of approximately 12 clients for short-term therapeutic services; implement appropriate, evidence-based, clinical interventions based on client’s developmental stage and presenting problems; write thorough and appropriate case notes and maintain an organized file for each client; conduct psychosocial assessments, screenings for PTSD and other disorders, participate in clinical assessments for asylum cases; utilize individual and group supervision effectively to improve skills; and more.

Qualifications: Spanish reading, writing and speaking fluency or near-fluency required; experience with or interest in working with immigrant children and families in a clinical setting; ability to work with a culturally diverse population; strong interpersonal skills, verbal and nonverbal communication skills, and attentiveness to detail; ability to prioritize duties in a fast-paced environment. Volunteers must be a Tulane or University of Holy Cross counseling or social work student, or a trained/certified LCSW or LPC.

Position available as internship for Holy Cross or Tulane counseling/social work students.

Schedule: flexible, minmum 8 hours/week for at least 4 months Monday-Friday (9AM-4PM) with some possible evening workshop support.
