At the front desk you will be the first face people see when they come into the International Rescue Committee. In this role you will assist clients, staff members and other community members in finding the resources they need at the IRC. Your main focus will be on clients coming into the IRC for services provided by our Center for Financial Opportunity, a resource for those seeking to build businesses and succeed in employment opportunities. Volunteers serve a minimum of 3 hours per week answering questions and providing resources over the phone and in person. While ability to speak a language other than English can be highly useful in this role, it is not required.
Location: City Heights Office
Dates Needed/Minimum Commitment:
- Minimum 3 month commitment
Times Needed: (subject to change)
- Monday, Wednesday, Friday: Anytime between 8:30AM-5PM
- Tuesday, Thursday: Anytime between 8:30AM-7PM
- Saturday, Sunday: Anytime between 10AM-4PM
Responsibilities:
- Extensive communication with clients both in-person and over the phone
- Evaluate client requests and direct them to relevant IRC services or staff
- Check in clients and create new client appointments for JTAL (Job Training and Application Lab) and VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) programs
- Provide general administrative and logistical support to CFO staff
Qualifications:
- Proficient in the use of computers and relevant programs such as Microsoft Office, Chrome, etc.
- Personable with an ability to work within a multicultural environment
- Effective communicator who is able to bridge the gap that is often presented by language barriers
- Previous reception experience and/or Arabic, Farsi or Somali language abilities are a plus.
Training/Preparation:
- Attend a general IRC Orientation (1 hour)
- One on one staff overview and training
