Homebase is a facility for homeless young men and women (18-24 years of age). To assist in establishing personal goals and improving body, mind and spirit through exercise, we are starting a "Running/Speed Walking" Group that will be coordinated by on-site staff and can include up to 25 youth.
We need motivating volunteers to run/walk with youth in the mornings on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday or Friday at 6:45 a.m. Goal is to meet each participant where they are, hence various paced runners/walkers are welcome to help each participant feel good about their experience.
We need volunteers to teach a running-themed session (e.g. running form, nutrition, breathing techniques, etc.). Schedule can be discussed with on-site staff.
We need someone to lead a cross training physical activity. Schedule can be discussed with on-site staff.
We need running shoes and attire (gently used is fine) or supplies(caps, sunscreen, water bottles, etc.)
We need sponsors for our youth to participate in a local race to experience first-hand the thrill of this activity.
If you can do one or more of these needs, please contact me to get these youth loving this sport as much as you do!
