The Rochester Chapter of the American Cancer Society is looking for volunteers to join it’s event planning committee for the Relay For Life of Greater Rochester in June, 2020!
Relay For Life is a non-competitive event where teams of friends, neighbors, families, coworkers, etc. commit to keeping at least one member walking around the track at all times - because cancer is a disease that never sleeps! Relay increases awareness of cancer in the community and raises much needed funds to fight the disease. At Relay For Life, we CELEBRATE cancer Survivors and their victory over cancer; REMEMBER loved ones lost by lighting hundreds of Luminaria bags in the evening; and FIGHT BACK against cancer by pledging to take action against the disease!
The Relay For Life Planning Committee is made up of several different sub-committees, each focusing on a different aspect of this amazing community event, and meets once per month. Sub-committees communicate throughout the month (either by meeting in person, phone, or email) to discuss their general tasks and responsibilities. There is something for everyone! You don't need to have a background in a specific area - just a passion to help a great cause! Our committee is made up of volunteers from throughout the county, young and old, each striving to make a personal effort to fight back against cancer.
If you are interested in joining our event Planning Committee please contact us for more information or to be added to the email distribution list for committee volunteer updates.

Description
Relay For Life offers everyone in a community an opportunity to participate in the fight against cancer. Teams of people camp out at a local high school, park, or fairground and take turns walking or running around a track or path. Each team is asked to have a representative on the track at all times during the event. Relays are an overnight event. Teams of people from all walks of life have fun while raising much-needed funds to fight cancer and raise awareness of cancer prevention and treatment.
Relay for Life is a life-changing event that brings together more than 3.5 million people to:
- Celebrate the lives of those who have battled cancer. The strength of survivors inspires others to continue to fight.
- Remember loved ones lost to the disease. At Relay, people who have walked alongside people battling cancer can grieve and find healing.
- Fight Back. We Relay because we have been touched by cancer and desperately want to put an end to the disease.
