Mentor 19-year-old refugee from Afghanistan

We are looking for a male volunteer, couple, or family to mentor a 19-year-old male youth from Afghanistan who spent most of his life in Iran before being resettled in the U.S. in December of 2016. This youth is mature and quiet but good at communicating his needs to his case manager. He is hardworking in school and works part-time at Meijer. He enjoys soccer and going to the YMCA.

The youth states that for as long as he can remember he has experienced verbal humiliation and discrimination for his Afghani background despite having been born in Iran. He and his family were given legal documents but were denied the right to work, purchase certain goods or attend school legally. In 2011 his family moved to Tehran, Iran as a law had been passed that all Afghani’s in Bandare Abbas would be deported. Due to this law, his family was denied the ability to renew their legal documents. In April 2014, he was waiting for the public bus and was stopped by an undercover Iranian police officer. He states that he was arrested for being Afghani and having no valid identification. He was eventually deported to Afghanistan and then fled to Indonesia after being harassed in Afghanistan.
