The Sundance Institute has an exciting Volunteer opportunity coming up in your area! We are hosting a New Frontier Lab at the Detroit Historical Museum.


We are in need of a large number of volunteers for this event. Please carefully review the email below as we have shifts on 2 different days and multiple types of volunteer positions. Event Title: New Frontier Day Lab in Detroit


Event Location: Detroit Historical Museum, 5401 Woodward Ave, Detroit, MI 48202


Event Info: The Sundance Institute New Frontier Day Lab presents some of the newest and most innovative forms of communication architecture through which we share our stories and create the world around us. Multimedia and transmedia, virtual and augmented reality, immersive and digitally connected experiences, speculative imagination and new technologies all provide unique ways of presenting narratives.

Friday, November 2nd, 2018

Overview of Duties:

  • Setup of VR equipment such as Oculus Rift, HTC Vive and Gear-VR

Considerations:

  • Familiarity with VR platforms and equipment preferred
  • Casual attire
  • This is a setup day prior to the event day
  • Lunch is provided, and parking costs will be covered by Sundance
  • Interested parties can email volunteers@sundance.org to set up a quick call with our IT team as they will need assistance in setting up the V.R. platforms

Shift Time:

  • 12:00 PM - 5:00 PM EST (2 shifts available)

Registration Volunteers (2 positions available)

Overview of Duties:

  • Greet participants as they arrive to the event
  • Check in participants via Ipad tablet
  • Pass out badges
  • Sign in walk-in participants and collect emails
  • Direct participants to event location and spaces
  • Assist and provide support to our guests and staff
  • Load- in & Set-up , Tear-down & Load-out

Registration Volunteers: 10:30 AM - 6:00 PM (2 positions available)

IT Volunteers (12 positions available)

Overview of Duties:

  • Manage VR (virtual reality) space
  • Setup VR headsets and equipment
  • Assist attendees with the equipment
  • Create timing schedule to ensure there is equity in viewing experience (5 min to set up, xx time per experience)
  • Assist with technical glitches
  • Cleaning headsets after each use

Considerations:

  • There will be a training session in the morning
  • IT volunteers: VR Equipment & platform knowledge preferred
  • Casual Attire
  • Opportunities to sit in on presentations if desired
  • Lunch provided
  • Catering as well for Brunch, Snacks and reception beverages/appetizers
  • Parking fees Covered

Shift Times:

  • Registration Volunteers: 10:30 AM - 6:00 PM (2 positions available)
  • IT Volunteers: 8:00 AM - 7:30 PM (12 positions available)
