International Hospitality Coordinator Committee Member

Summerfest International Art and Folk Festival is searching for a new hospitality committee member. Summerfest is currently preparing for its 32nd year. This wonderful community event is made possible by our board, staff and wonderful volunteers. BDAC’s Summerfest Committee is comprised of volunteers who use their unique knowledge and skills to help run this event.

Commitment

Attend monthly meetings. Usually, first Tuesday of each month. Attend weekly meetings leading up to the festival. Attend the festival Friday, June 28, 2019 and Saturday, June 29, 2019. Write a post event review of the festival and attend the Post Event Party.

A commitment of 2 festivals is desired. Outgoing committee members move into an advisory position as consultants for a year after their second year. Shorter terms may be considered for special accommodations such as school or internships


Responsibilities

The Hospitality Coordinator Committee Member is responsible to aid and oversee the following.

Organize hospitality tent and provide guidance to volunteers on how to feed 60-120 guests from around the world. Hospitality tent is a 10’x20’ tent used to prepare and stage food for our international guests. A refrigerated truck is provided at the festival to store perishable items as well as a standard refrigerator/freezer. Prep tables and washing stations are kept inside of the tent along with three 8’ serving tables. Knives, cutting boards, and platters are provided.

  1. Follow Davis County Health Department Food and Health Administration Standards.
  2. Assist with the application of proper permits when needed.
  3. Make suggestions on food preparation and presentation.
  4. Portion food so that it lasts the duration of the event. Use food-safe serving trays.
  5. Must have a current food handlers permit and understanding of safe preparation practices. BDAC will pay for you to take a FHP class if needed.
  6. Make recommendations for improvements to current processes. Suggest ways to reduce waste.
  7. Time management skills.
  8. Recruit volunteers to help with the hospitality area for the Festival, usually in 2-4 hour shifts.
  9. Cross cultural understanding. Interact with guests in a secure backstage area.
