Groove With Me is a non profit that utilizes FREE after school and summer dance classes to promote and encourage positive youth development among girls between the ages of 4-18 who reside in East Harlem or the South Bronx. East Harlem has a median household income of $10,000. Groove With Me offers needed safety, arts programming, achievement skills, and after-school activity.

We serve 250 girls per year and offer 36 classes a week. We do all of this through the efforts of over 40 volunteer teachers who give of themselves for the benefit and enrichment of our girls. Many of our dance teachers say that being here is the best part of their week. The children are just so happy to be here and we are part of a great community of families. Hopefully we can add you to that list!!

Here are the ways you can get involved:

1. Full year volunteer teacher- Teaching at GWM requires a full year commitment (September-June) and mandatory teacher training. During the course of the year, you prepare your students for Parent Observation and Participation (POP) week in December and the End of Year Recital in June. There are also opportunities to perform at community events. We welcome all styles of dance!
2. Subbing- Our teachers are great but sometimes things come up! If you want to be involved, but have a schedule that does not allow you to commit to a full year, we are always in need of dancers who can fill in and sub a dance class when the regularly schedule teacher cannot make it.
