Join hundreds of friends and neighbors at our annual fall Duwamish Alive! event along the Duwamish Shoreline behind BECU in Tukwila!
After a summer of removing invasive plants at the Duwamish Shoreline, we will be planting native species along the river and spreading mulch to continue to bring this location back to its former glory! While you’re here, keep an eye out for otter, osprey and other wildlife making their home along the river’s edge. This is a great way to give back to your local community, and is also an awesome opportunity to meet some new faces, to get your hands dirty, and to get outside and connect with the Green-Duwamish River!
Time: Saturday, October 20th, 10-2pm
Address: 12770 Gateway Drive, Tukwila WA 98168
Where to park: Ample parking is available adjacent to the site.
What to bring: Please dress for the weather because we will be working rain or shine! Boots or comfortable athletic shoes, work clothes, appropriate layers for rain and sun. Volunteers should also bring a refillable water bottle; snacks and coffee will be provided.
Restoration training, tools and gloves will also be provided. No experience necessary, so make sure to bring along your friends, family, and neighbors!
Youth volunteers: If you are under 18 and attending the event without a parent or guardian, please come to the event with a Youth Waiver signed by a parent or guardian. Youth Waiver for Forterra Restoration Events can be found https://forterra.org/wp-content/uploads/2015/05/FORTERRA.Youth_Waiver.restoration.updated_06.20.2013.pdfhere: .

About Forterra

Mission Statement
Forterra's mission is to act with immediacy to protect, enhance and steward our region's most precious resources--its communities and its landscapes. Since 1989, we have been working toward a future in which our children and grandchildren can experience nature in and around our urban environments.
Description
Forterra conserves land by working with individuals, companies and local governments. We strive to maximize the ecological value of land, while meeting the needs of landowners. We may accept land as a donation, purchase it, or transfer it to public ownership. We often serve as a broker to identify and negotiate the most effective ownership to protect important lands. We establish conservation easements to preserve special features. For each and every property, we explore available strategies or create new ones to provide permanent protection. Forterra has established a Conservation Agenda for our region, with specific priorities and methods for each type of landscape. Current initiatives include the protection of working forests on the foothills of the Cascades, and the creation of salmon sanctuaries along our region's highest quality rivers and streams.
