QUALIFICATIONS:
An ability to approach persons with purpose and courtesy. Patients and families arrive on the 2nd floor and often need immediate assistance in determining they are in the right place. Being greeted provides the comfort many veterans and family members need. Throughout the tour of duty, volunteers will need to approach persons with information and sometimes instruction.
- Ability to deal with changes in schedule of surgeries and procedures. Often times the schedule for procedures or surgery may change without notice due to an emergency, cancellation, or change in condition.
- Ability to use problem-solving skills, usually without consultation with busy surgical/procedures staff
- Ability to follow procedures determined by the nurse manager of the ambulatory surgery area
- Although a desk, chair and telephone will be provided, interaction with patients and families will require moving around the 2 nd floor waiting areas.
- Ability to access assistance if there should be medical or emotional problems with patients or visitors.
