Are you passionate about supporting the San Diego startup community and have significant experience in accounting or finance? We want someone like you to join our nonprofit’s team of Managing Directors! This role handles all functions of the Finance Committee, including:

• Selection, management and advisement of finance-related Directors
• Responsible for budget, insurance, regulatory compliance, contracts, bank accounts, accounting and taxes
• Communication between all parties including the Executive Director, Board, Directors and across Startup San Diego teams and working groups
• Serve on Finance Committee

This is an unpaid, volunteer position reporting to the Executive Director and Board of Directors. The time commitment is approximately 5-10 hours a month for the 2-year term - additional commitments are needed before and during San Diego Startup Week.

Our ideal Managing Director of Finance is an enthusiastic, smart, and dedicated finance/accounting professional, excited to share his or her expertise to help our nonprofit. You are eager to learn. You can bring a financial lens to our strategic planning.

You have experience with financial management, such as budget development, grant reporting, financial modeling, risk management, overseeing audits, tax reporting (Form 990), and asset management.

Finally, you are passionate about our cause, and you are committed to keep abreast of new, relevant issues that may impact our nonprofit. Prior nonprofit management experience is not required, but is highly appreciated.

• Experience with sponsorship/donations
• Experience with QBO
• Experience with financial reporting
• Experience with budgeting
• Experience with accounting rule differences between GAAP and IRS
