Veterans Caring for Veterans-Volunteers Needed

ORGANIZATION: Hospice of the Miami Valley

Are you an active service member in the military? Are you a Veteran who previously served our country? Hospice of the Miami Valley is seeking Veteran volunteers who can spend time with our Veteran patients and their families.

We at HOMV respect our Veterans who have done everything asked of them in their mission to serve our country. We feel it is never too late to support them and give them a hero's welcome home. It is our way of saying thank you for the sacrifices they made in serving us. Friendly social visits, assisting with recording their life stories, and participating in Veterans ceremonies are just a few examples of how you can help honor and serve our Veteran patients.

Volunteers are an important part of the Hospice team. Veteran volunteers for HOMV offer support, companionship, and practical, caring help to Veteran patients and their families facing a life-limiting illness. The help and support that our volunteers give is returned to them in countless ways.

This assignment offers flexibility in time commitment and schedule, so you can volunteer as little or as much as you like. Our Volunteer Coordinator will provide specialized training and will walk with you every step of the way. Volunteers may choose to visit patients in their homes or at public health care facilities. Volunteers are needed in Dayton and surrounding areas (communities within a 20-mile radius). You will be supported in your role by a competent and caring group of nurses, aides, social workers, chaplains, and fellow volunteers. All supplies will be provided by Hospice.

If you'd like to become a caring presence to those in need, please call Volunteer Coordinator Anne Metzger at 937-458-6028 or email metzgera@homv.org.

"The willingness of America's veterans to sacrifice for our country has earned them our lasting gratitude."-Jeff Miller
