Objective - The ASL Welcome Team greets Deaf individuals who walk through CIL’s doors in ASL.
Location - CIL, 720 N. Denning Dr., Winter Park, FL 32789
Responsibilities - Greet Deaf individuals with a smile and interpret between ASL from Deaf individual and English for our hearing receptionist. Guide Deaf individuals to their appointments when their specialist is ready to meet with them.
Qualifications - Basic understanding of ASL and English. A polite and professional attitude.
Time Commitment - This position is available Monday through Thursday from 9am to 4pm. It is the volunteer’s responsibility to schedule their availability within that time frame with the volunteer coordinator. Volunteers may not be able to volunteer if they have not scheduled a time to come in with the volunteer coordinator prior to arriving for a shift.
Supervisor - Stevey Panton, Volunteer Coordinator
Training - Volunteer Tour and Orientation with Volunteer Coordinator on Day 1 of volunteer’s service at CIL’s Winter Park Office. This typically takes from 30mins to an hour.
Additional Requirements: Business casual attire and a professional attitude. Volunteers will be dismissed if they are acting in an unprofessional manner or if there is suspicion of substance use or possession on property.
Other - Volunteers looking to improve their ASL skills have the option to utilize CIL’s computers to visit ASL lesson websites during down time of their scheduled volunteer shift. Volunteers may only visit approved websites, and must have prior consent to use the computers.
