Mattamuskeet National Wildlife Refuge has year-round non-paid RV volunteer openings. RVer(s) stay an average of 3 months. Couples work 24 hours each per week; a single volunteer works 32 hours per
week. References and a background check with fingerprints will be required. The refuge
is for daylight use only; this is not a public campground. Our concrete camper pad is set up
for two RVs. We offer water, sewer, and electric hookups, with a convenient free laundry
facility. The camper pad site is an easy walk to the visitor center.
We are looking for a groundskeeper and also someone to work in the visitor center/gift
shop. Your individual interests, talents and skills (woodworking, gardening, small engine
maintenance, etc) will be appreciated and put to good use. We maintain a small
pollinator garden, so some light gardening is included in the duties. This is an ideal
situation for couples.

Description
Mattamuskeet Lake, at about 40,000 acres, is the largest natural
lake in North Carolina, and has about 10,000 acres of surrounding woodlands and water
impoundments. Each winter we are home to thousands of migrating tundra swans, snow
geese, Canada geese, and a wide variety of ducks. The waterfowl leaves in February-
March. The refuge then becomes popular all spring, summer and fall for fishing and
crabbing. Located in Hyde County (eastern North Carolina), the refuge is an easy drive
to the ocean or some of our larger near-by towns. If you like rustic, rural, picturesque surroundings,
away from bright city lights, we're just the place for you.
