The museum seeks individuals to work with its events coordinator in scheduling volunteer shifts.
The volunteer helps assure that sufficient numbers of volunteers are scheduled for open hours and special events. Most tasks can be completed remotely but getting to know other volunteers over time helps in scheduling. Proximity to the museum is helpful to assure face-to-face interactions with volunteers and familiarity with the museum's activities and programs. Volunteers also assist with regular orientation of new volunteers.
Volunteers should be comfortable with visitors of all ages, ranging from pre-school to seniors. We also ask that applicants periodically assist with museum operations during open hours (1:00-4:00 on most Sundays).
The Fairfax Station Railroad Museum follows current federal, state and local guidance regarding COVID-19.
The museum offers a unique opportunity to give back to the community by helping to preserve local history in a family-friendly setting. If you are a "people person," this is the place for you!
