FRIENDS OF THE FAIRFAX STATION INC

The museum seeks one or two individuals to work with its events coordinator in scheduling volunteer shifts.

The volunteer helps manage the museum's scheduling account, assuring that sufficient numbers of volunteers are scheduled for open hours and special events. Most tasks can be completed remotely but getting to know other volunteers over time helps in scheduling. Proximity to the museum is helpful to assure face-to-face interactions with volunteers and familiarity with the museum's activities and programs.

Volunteers should be comfortable with visitors of all ages, ranging from pre-school to seniors. We also ask that an applicant periodically assist with museum operations during open hours (1:00-4:00 on most Sundays).

The museum offers a unique opportunity to give back to the community by helping to preserve local history in a family-friendly setting. If you are a "people person," this is the place for you!

The Fairfax Station Railroad Museum follows current federal, state and local guidance regarding COVID-19.

Mission Statement

Preserve and educate about local history through events, activities, exhibits and programs at what was the last operating railroad depot in Fairfax County.

Description

The all-volunteer Friends of the Fairfax Station operate the Fairfax Station Railroad Museum, dedicated in 1987, to preserve and educate about local history.
