Hazel Hurst Community Center prepares boxes and distributes donated food items from Second Harvest Food Bank twice a month (each 2nd and 4th Tuesday of the month) to eligible families in Jefferson Parish. The boxes are prepared between the hours of 9:00am to 1:00pm and distributed between the hours of 1pm to 4pm. We are looking for individuals to assist with:
- Assist with front desk duties including answering phones, transferring calls and greeting clients during the food bank.
- Managing daily sign-in log and assisting with the check-in process, as well.
- Provide excellent customer service to clients and visitors
Unfortunately, we have no weekend opportunities available, just Monday - Friday.

Jefferson Community Action Programs (JEFFCAP) is Jefferson Parish's agency dedicated to fulfilling its mission of empowering as many families of Jefferson Parish including our elderly, disabled, economically disadvantaged and youth through our various programs. Linkages have been built with federal, state, local and private agencies to provide a wide array of services in order to help meet the needs of the clients we serve. Our goal is to help people who need temporary assistance get back on their feet and become self sufficient.
JEFFCAP offers programs ranging from Head Start to the Retired Senior Volunteer Program; from housing counseling, rental and utility assistance, to helping families keep their homes, to temporary shelter for those who have lost their homes. Other programs include distribution of food commodities and subsidizing meals for Head Start children and those in attendance at our Family Day Care Homes Program. Also, we offer transportation to people, (who meet criteria) for medical appointments.
